A service-area profile shows the areas you serve instead of a street address. It suits businesses that visit customers, or work by phone and online.
Which address to give Google
Google still asks for an address when you set up the profile, but it isn’t shown. Give Google the address you actually run your business from, which for many sole traders is home. It stays hidden. Use your MailStreet address everywhere customers do see it: your website, invoices and email signature.
We don’t sell Google listings, and a Business Address or Pro address isn’t eligible to show on Google Maps. See what Google allows.
The steps
Google moves its menus around, so look for these settings by name.
- Sign in to Google Business Profile and open your profile (or create one).
- Go to Edit profile → Location (sometimes “Business location”).
- Turn off showing your address to customers, or remove it.
- Under Service area, add the suburbs, cities or regions you serve. Google allows up to 20, and suggests keeping them within about two hours’ drive of where you’re based.
- Save, then complete any verification Google asks for.
Verification
Google may ask you to verify, often by video. Show your tools, branded vehicle, or the equipment you use for the business. Google decides; nobody can guarantee approval.
